  • Decentralized ball head
  • Magnesium housing
  • high performance and low weight

The decentralized ball heads of series 2, 3 and 5 have been completely redesigned in terms of higher performance and lower weight.

While the design and construction of the magnesium housing have remained unchanged, the internal components have been completely redesigned. Depending on the model, the weight has been reduced by 15 - 17%. The ball is now treated with PTFE to achieve greater smoothness and precision. Minor weaknesses in previous versions in terms of compliance have been completely eliminated. The knobs have been redesigned to improve ergonomics and allow both easier operation and a reduction in weight. The internal locking mechanisms are the real innovation. The panoramic closure is now three times more efficient than before. This is a decisive advantage when these ball heads are used with side arms or with a center column in the horizontal position (as with the Explorer tripods). The ball lock now has a completely new, patented system. Traditionally, there has been a trade-off for ball heads between maximum clamping and smooth movement. With conventional locking systems, a softer movement leads to a reduction in load capacity, while higher load capacity leads to concessions in the softness of the movement. To solve this problem, Gitzo is now introducing a patented system that combines two locking systems in one. When the tripod head is to be completely locked, the ball is clamped by a metal material with high friction to achieve optimum clamping security. In all intermediate positions - when the ball needs to move smoothly and with high precision - it is pressed against a techno-polymer bearing that ensures smooth and precise movement. This spring-assisted double clamping system (SADL) guarantees smoother ball movements in every situation.
