Snapshot at the perfect moment

From the new snapshot: "Humor"

Mouth wide open, eyes wide and focused on only one thing: Food. Probably not many people would let themselves be photographed doing this - but our very favorite four-legged friends couldn't care less. It is precisely through this kind of both humorous and fascinating pictures that Christian Vieler has made a name for himself. He impresses not only us, but also many other fans worldwide.

Vieler Photography

Christian Vieler's career is at least as impressive as his photographs themselves. Originally from Waltrop, the trained journalist used to work as an editorial manager at a digital agency in Düsseldorf. He only took photographs on the side, either outdoors or in his private studio. This would probably have remained the case for many years - if the purchase of a portable flash in 2013 had not opened up new possibilities for him. Because the photographer quickly realized that he quickly reached his limits in the outdoor area without flash and could not perfectly freeze the facial expressions of his subjects. With the use of flash, significantly faster shutter speeds were now possible. From then on, Christian continued to test and refine his technique with his Labrador dog "Lotte". However, Lotte was not always the most patient, so he came up with the idea of drawing her attention to treats. A trick that worked brilliantly and still does today. After that, it was practice, practice, practice. Christian focused first on the sharpness of the image, then on the timing of how and when he threw the treat. This resulted in very unusual-crazy shots that inspire many people today.

The unique insight into the emotional world

That's how everything got rolling, and more and more often dogs and their masters and mistresses visited his studio. Christian takes classic portrait photos here. The four-legged friends sit patiently still, wait until the photographer throws them the treat, and âclick.â. The snapshot at the perfect moment and the very special facial expressions with which the dogs are fully focused on the moving treat are captured. "The shots bring us much closer to our beloved pets," says the photographer. Anticipation, fear of loss, pure enjoyment and contentment - a range of emotions we don't usually get to see so clearly. It is precisely this unusual insight into the dog's soul that is the main reason for his success. Especially in this day and age, photos spread faster than ever before - a fact that has benefited Christian, as he is now also internationally known and is constantly developing new projects. So he turned his hobby into a profession and developed a new kind of animal portraits, which give him and the dogs a lot of fun and show us a unique insight into their emotional world.
